DogWaterChamp Drawing Sleeve
An extended artist glove created to reduce direct contact from both the drawing hand and forearm while working across large drawing tablets and physical studio surfaces.
Why It Exists
Wrist-length drawing gloves solved only part of the problem.
Traditional artist gloves can reduce friction beneath the side of the hand, but most stop at the wrist. That may be enough for a small tablet. It was not enough for the way I worked.
On a large drawing display, the forearm rests against and travels across the tablet along with the hand. That contact can create drag, interrupt longer movements, leave oils and marks on the display, and interfere with moving freely across a large composition.
The DogWaterChamp Drawing Sleeve continues beyond the wrist, creating a layer beneath both the drawing hand and the forearm.

From Process to Product
The sleeve was born from the work.
Creating large panoramic illustrations meant spending long periods working directly on a large drawing display. The edge of my hand was not the only point of contact. My forearm moved across the screen as I worked.
Existing drawing gloves stopped at the wrist, leaving the forearm exposed to the same drag, heat, oils, and surface contact the glove was intended to prevent.
I began developing an extended alternative, testing how it moved across the tablet, how far it should reach up the arm, and how it could remain comfortable during long working sessions.

The finished sleeve became part of the same digital drawing and mixed-media practice that originally revealed the need for it.

Used from the first drawing to the final ink line.
The sleeve was originally developed for large digital drawing displays, but its role expanded as the artwork moved from the screen to canvas.
I also use it while applying fine ink lines to printed canvases. The extended fabric helps keep my forearm from brushing across completed marks, dragging against the surface, or disturbing areas already in progress.
It is not separate from the artwork. It is a tool that emerged from—and returned to—the creative process.
